Frequently Asked Questions

How would you describe your photography style?

My approach is a blend of candid storytelling and natural, guided portraits. I want your photos to feel genuine—not stiff or overly posed. Throughout the day, I'll give you enough direction to help you feel comfortable while also leaving room for real moments to unfold naturally.

We've never had professional photos taken before. Is that weird?

Not at all.

In fact, most of my couples have never had professional photos taken together before. You don't need to know how to pose, where to put your hands, or what to do with your face. That's my job.

I'll guide you every step of the way so you can focus on each other instead of worrying about the camera.

We're awkward in front of the camera. Can you help?

Absolutely.

Most couples tell me this during our first conversation, and almost every one of them says afterward that it was much easier than they expected.

I use simple prompts, natural movement, and conversation to help you relax. My goal isn't to turn you into models—it's to create photographs that feel like you.

Are you going to make us do awkward Pinterest poses?

No.

If you've ever looked at a photo and thought, "That looks beautiful, but I'd never do that in real life," we're probably on the same page.

I focus on natural interactions, genuine emotions, and creating opportunities for real moments rather than forcing complicated poses.

What if we're not super affectionate in front of people?

That's completely okay.

Every couple is different. Some are playful, some are quiet, some are affectionate, and some are more reserved.

I'm not interested in forcing moments that don't feel authentic. I want your photographs to reflect your relationship—not somebody else's version of it.

Are you LGBTQIA+ friendly?

Absolutely.

Love is love, and everyone deserves to feel comfortable, respected, and celebrated.

My goal is to create an environment where you can be yourselves and focus on what matters most—each other. Everyone is welcome here.

What if my family is a little... complicated?

You're definitely not the first.

Families come with all kinds of dynamics, and after photographing weddings for more than 15 years, I've seen a little bit of everything.

If there are divorced parents, sensitive relationships, family tensions, or people who shouldn't be standing next to each other during family photos, just let me know ahead of time and we'll make a plan together.

Do you help with timelines?

Yes.

One of the biggest ways I support my couples is by helping create a photography timeline that allows the day to flow naturally while making sure we have enough time for the moments that matter most.

What happens before the wedding?

Once you're booked, I'll stay in touch throughout the planning process.

About a month before the wedding, I'll send a questionnaire that helps me learn about your timeline, family dynamics, important details, and anything you want documented. The goal is for you to feel prepared and confident long before the wedding day arrives.

What happens on the wedding day?

My goal is to help your day feel relaxed and enjoyable.

I'll step in when guidance is needed, especially during portraits and family photos, but otherwise I work quietly and intentionally to document the day as it unfolds.

You'll never find me taking over the wedding. I want you to experience it.

Will you tell us if something looks weird?

Yes.

If your veil is crooked, your tie is twisted, your boutonniere is upside down, or your dress bustle has escaped for the third time, I'm probably going to say something.

I may be your photographer, but I'm also quietly keeping an eye on the little details throughout the day.

Do you cry at weddings?

Occasionally.

Fifteen years later and there are still moments that get me—especially emotional vows, meaningful parent dances, and grandparents seeing their loved ones get married.

I promise I can still operate the camera if I get a little misty-eyed.

Do you photograph family formals?

Absolutely.

Family photographs often become some of the most treasured images from a wedding day. Before the wedding, I'll help you create a family photo list so we can work efficiently and make sure nobody important gets missed.

Do we have to do an engagement session?

Nope.

Many couples choose one because it helps us get comfortable with each other before the wedding day, but it's never required.

That said, engagement sessions are a great way to shake off camera nerves and see how easy the process can be.

What if we're having a non-traditional wedding?

Perfect.

Some of my favorite weddings have completely ignored the "rules."

Whether you're getting married in a backyard, courthouse, park, museum, brewery, or somewhere totally unique, I'm here for it. Your wedding should reflect who you are—not what social media says it should look like.

What if it rains?

Then we make the best of it.

Michigan weather likes to keep us on our toes, so I always encourage couples to have a backup plan. Some of my favorite images have happened under umbrellas, on covered porches, and during unexpected breaks in the clouds.

Rain usually becomes part of the story.

Will you Photoshop us?

Every image is professionally edited for color, lighting, and consistency.

If you wake up with a surprise blemish on your wedding day, don't worry—that kind of thing is no problem.

What I won't do is completely change who you are. The people who love you want to remember you, not an overly edited version of you.

How do we reserve our date?

To officially reserve your wedding date, I require a signed agreement and a non-refundable 30% retainer.

Once both are received, your date is secured and removed from my calendar.

How far in advance should we book?

Most couples book anywhere from 6 to 18 months before their wedding date.

Popular Saturdays tend to go quickly, so once you've secured your venue, it's a good idea to reach out.

Do you travel?

Absolutely.

I'm based in Southeast Michigan and regularly photograph weddings throughout Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, and across the state. Travel within 50 miles is included, and I'm always happy to discuss celebrations farther from home.

How long does it take to receive our photos?

You'll receive a sneak peek gallery shortly after your wedding so you can relive some of your favorite moments right away.

Your full gallery is then carefully edited and delivered online. Completed galleries are delievered ususally six to eight weeks after your speical day. I'll keep you updated throughout the process so you're never left wondering where things stand.

How will we receive our photos?

Your images are delivered through a private online gallery where you can view, download, share, and order professional prints.

The gallery makes it easy to enjoy your photos while also sharing them with family and friends.

Are you really going to make a fool of yourself to get us laughing?

There's a very good chance.

If acting a little ridiculous helps create a genuine smile instead of a forced one, it's worth it. After 15 years of photographing weddings, I've learned that authentic laughter always beats a perfect pose.

What's the most important thing we can do for great photos?

Be present.

The couples who love their photos the most usually aren't the most photogenic—they're the ones who allow themselves to fully experience the day.

Laugh when something is funny. Cry when you're moved. Hug your people. Hold your partner's hand. Be in the moment.

The best photographs happen when you're busy living them.

Why do you photograph weddings?

Because weddings are about people.

They're about the relationships that brought you to this moment, the people who helped shape your story, and the memories that will matter long after the flowers are gone and the music has ended.

Being trusted to preserve those moments is something I never take lightly. I genuinely love what I do, and I'm honored every time a couple invites me to be part of such an important day.
